Trees and Shrubs
  • Continue to plant trees shrubs and roses. Continue to water newly planted shrubs until fully established.
  • On deciduous shrubs, cut those shoots that have finished flowering.
  • Spray roses with insecticide to control pests and diseases.
Flowers
  • Hanging baskets can be hung out safely this month.
  • Early June is the ideal time to plant your display of bedding plants.
  • Plant out dahlia plants watering well if the soil is dry.
  • Don’t forget to plant border perennials for low maintenance and all year round interest.
Fruit
  • Spray apples to prevent damage from Codling Moth Caterpillars.
  • Protect soft fruit from marauding birds with netting.
Vegetables
  • Sow may crop carrots to give large roots for winter storage.
  • Plants Brussels Sprouts, Autumn Cabbages, Cauliflowers and Runner Beans.
  • Water well until well established.
Lawns
  • Mow and edge the lawn regularly.
  • Apply a weed and feed mix to improve the overall appearance of the lawn.
  • Invest in a good hose, reel and sprinkler to make vital watering a pleasure.
Greenhouse
  • Start to feed tomatoes when the first fruit truss has set. Ventilate freely and damp down to maintain a humid atmosphere.
  • Automatic vents remove the guesswork.

Houseplants

  • Increase humidity by standing your plants on a tray of moist clay granules.
  • Continue to move pot bound plants into larger pots.
  • Use a liquid feed now every 10-14 days.
Don’t Forget
  • Concentrate on planting bedding plants and you’ll enjoy a whole summer of colour.
  • Clean out overgrown ponds and replant new water plants.
